Why Does the Logo Rub Off My Branded Range Balls?

Why Does the Logo Rub Off My Branded Range Balls?

Most branded range ball logos rub off because they're printed on top of the ball's final finish rather than sealed underneath it. That surface-level print has nothing protecting it from the ball washer, the mats, or general handling, so it wears through – often within weeks – leaving a blank ball where your branding used to be. The fix is printing the logo directly onto the cover before the clear coat goes on, not after.

Why this happens so fast

A ball washer is designed to scrub. So is the friction of thousands of strikes against a mat. If the print sits on top of the final coating, every one of those forces is working directly on the ink itself, with nothing between it and the abrasion. It doesn't take long – a few weeks of normal use is enough to visibly fade a surface-printed logo, sometimes less on a busy range.

What actually stops it

The order of operations is what matters. Pad printing the logo directly onto the cover – before any clear coat is applied – means the ink becomes part of the finished surface, not a layer stuck to the top of it. Sealing that with a double layer of polyurethane clear coat afterwards protects the print the same way it protects the rest of the ball's surface, rather than leaving it exposed.
